Two Candlesticks frame the mirror is a right and left represent the light and fire, two very important elements in ancient Persian ceremonies. They stand for the equality and equivalence of bride and groom. Each is like a candle that illuminates life.
Directly in front of the pair is a Koran, which is the blessing of God.
A piece of traditional Iranian material, which is embroidered in Paisley, also known as "Termeh", decorates the "Sofreh Aghd" and stands for tradition. The wild rue is also decorated on a tray and to protect the couple from the evil eye. It is upon arrival of the newlyweds, the place of the ceremony, ignited and burned during the whole ceremony on hot coal. The burning wild rue is similar to incense and has a pleasant fragrance.
Furthermore, on the "Sofreh Aghd" is a tray of bread, usually Noon e Sangak (traditional Iranian bread) and herbs. This stands for blessing and prosperity. Brightly painted eggs are for fertility. For a long and happy marriage and healthy children are almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts.
